Transport of standard loads and hazardous materials ADR
Transport of hazardous materials is a challenge for road transport companies. First of all, they face the need to adapt their services to the standards and requirements of ADR transport, which is defined as the transport of goods classified as hazardous.
The conditions of ADR transport are set out in the International Act of 1957 of Geneva. The convention, initially ratified by 9 European countries, was signed in the following years by most countries in Europe, including Poland, in the year 1975. Any goods that may pose a potential threat to persons, property, or the natural environment is considered as a hazardous material.
Conditions and methods of transporting dangerous materials (ADR)
According to the convention, hazardous materials include explosive materials and articles, gases, liquids, and flammable solids, self-igniting materials, materials that produce gas in contact with water, oxidizing materials, poisonous materials, infectious/contagious materials, corrosive materials, and organic peroxides, which must be transported in tanks.
According to the regulations, the transport of hazardous cargo is prohibited by law. Therefore, this transport must meet separate conditions specified in the ADR agreement. It applies to both means of transport of hazardous materials (tankers), their marking and packaging, the qualifications of carriers, and the implementation of the transport itself.
